OH MY GOODNESS. I did not think I’d see any Log Horizon cosplay this year.
log horizon is just so great and amazing and I just kind of really really want to cosplay from the series in some capacity XD I really don’t know why more people aren’t watching this series!
I’m mostly leaning towards Shiroe because I find him ridiculously awesome, and smart characters who are also strategists hit me right in ‘the favourite character’ button… but depending on how much I like what seems to be Princess Lenessia’s combat outfit that may get done instead~
When I first started out, C.C.’s black gown from Code Geass was on my list, and the fact that we were able to even put the group together in 2009 is still one of the best things to me <3
As for costumes I’ve made… I’d really hoped to do a homestuck fancytier eventually, which I was able to complete in 2012! :D Even I’d really hoped to get to do a full Tsubasa group one day, which was completed last year with some awesome friends from Hamilton <3
My dream cosplays sort of continuously change, so I have a few that I don’t know if I’ll ever get to, though I hope to one day~ This year for costume con I’m hoping to finish one off, so we’ll see how this changes in the next year!
19. What was the hardest wig for you to style?
I’d have to say that this wig is for a cosplay that’s still in the works, but this wig has definitely been the most effort I’ve put into one before:
and this wigs not even done D: still need to add more curls and more layers including small amounts of highlights and lowlights… but I’m so excited for when its completed~
Oh gosh, I’m not even sure o.o For simplest overall construction, I’d have to say my Princess Sakura sundress from the T.O. cosplay picnic a few years ago~ Just a quite and simple sundress but still a ton a fun!
Otherwise, in terms of found items and how easily it was put together, probably Delight to go opposite as one of my friends as Delirium from Sandman~
That was the product of a fun search through Kensington market one summer day in 2009~ And I already owned the belt so it was insanely easy to put together XD
14. Have you made an armour cosplay?
I made my first attempt at this this past summer with my Sailor Iron Man! :D The original design didn’t contain much actual armour pieces, which I felt would be a cool add-on for actually making the costume because, well, Iron Man is a giant suit of armour XD
Though I’m still really pleased with the armour pieces here because it was my first time *ever* making armour, I know that they were definitely not perfect, far from it actually XD But it was a really fun first try, and I felt that I learned a lot from it to try it again in the future! I’d love to work more with worbla again~
24. Favorite wig?
I tend to always lean towards shorter wigs as my favourites because they are so much less hassle and its wonderful, but this might be a tie between my Sakura wig and my Hikaru Shidou wig~ My Sakura wig was one of my first wig purchases (oh boy) years ago, and I would wear it out all the time for chilling at cons, still do sometimes~ Annnd I pretty much just love my Hikaru wig! She’s one of my all-time favourite characters, and I’m still proud of how I managed to style and uct the wig down from the weird mess it showed up as~
First ever con I cosplayed to (o lordy) was the friday of the now infamous Con no Baka in 2005 as Riku Harada from DNAngel~ I cosplayed with bought ebay stuff until 2008 when that August I started learning to sew and haven’t turned back since! :D
This photo’s from two years later, but its the same one I initially wore out! God I was so terrified at the time that I was going to be the only one there in costume and boy was I wrong :P
11. Are you embarrassed by any of your cosplays?
Hahaha, I’m kinda emabarassed by my very very first attempt at sewing, which was a glaceon gijinka for Anime North 2008 in which I bought a Haruhi costume for (weirdly the design included the haruhi uniform I don’t really know why) and sewed the ears and the tail. So much bad handsewing, and I had no idea how to stuff so the tail and ears were stuffed with extra broadcloth XD It was bad, but it was my first ever step. Every succeeding actual costume from that point, no matter how bad it may have been (and I’ve made some choices I’ve regretted in terms of construction before), it was a learning curve. I always learnt something to carry on to my next foray, and that keeps you going forward :)
21. Have you bought/commissioned a cosplay?
I have for sure~ When I first started I had zero idea how to sew. The most any of my family knew, even extended, was pretty much how to sew on a button at most, so when I found out the hobby at around …oh god 13/14?, I looked it up on the internet, found stuff on ebay, and went from there~ All of my first costumes, so from 2005-2008 mostly just going to AN I wore a bunch of commissioned ebay stuff.
When I started making my own I still sort of half and half made my own and bought for the next year. Because I really wasn’t at the level that I felt I could make what I wanted to yet, and didn’t have the space to make anything really either living in residence. Like C.C.’s Black dress for Code Geass in 2009. And even in 2013 I realized I didn’t have enough time to make Kirigiri’s jacket so I commissioned that, and made the rest of the costume~ My Sailor Venus was made by you! <3 :D I think it’s so awesome that that resource is there~ Sometimes it’s nice to almost have that break and just wear something out that is a lot of fun!
31. What’s your least favourite part about cosplaying?
I’d have to say some of the drama that can arise ): I hate to see how it can break friendships apart. I like to think that we’re all in this wondrous geeky hobby together, though I know that;s a naive way of thinking. But I’m seeing less drama as I get older, which I’m happy for~
Hi there! I hope you don't mind me asking, but did you make your Kirigiri cosplay? If not do you mind me asking where you got it? It is awesome!
Oh oh no no no, thank you for asking!! :D I’m happy to answer anything~
I made everything but the jacket~ I decided before AN that I just didn’t have the time to make it to the degree I’d be happy with it, so I commissioned a mutual friend to make it for me~ her cosplay name is Ammie, and her work is so well made and awesome!! Instead I made the shirt, tie, and skirt :)
Sorry, that probably wasn’t a lot of help ^^ But I made the skirt as a standard side pleat skirt, a mod’d dress shirt pattern for the shirt, and I free handed the tie. Designs I made from vectors backing the image with either white for the shirt or orange for the tie and printing them on iron on transfer paper. Lots of very careful small cutting to get those right~ I also made her hair bow but glueing thin malleable gardening wire from Michael’s
I can’t remember exactly where the boat was but I think it was in the georgia specific area kinda off of where you could pet the mini sharks and rays? me and meaghie just kinda wandered in there and it was like omg boat omg giant skeleton this is awesome we should get a picture… so we did~
Personally, I think the River cosplay is more dramatic (quite fitting for the occasion, don't you think?) so I'd go with that one rather than Clara. (: x
That’s what I was kinda leaning towards myself for a lot of those very reasons! Might as well almost pull out the stops and wear my most intense DW costume XD Plus I do kinda love running around as River.
I feel like I may have to take my wig off for the showing itself though lol Thanks for your input! <3
Last week a whoooole bunch of you showed up! Thank you very much for following me here <3 I feel like that big HS shoot went around again?
Anyway, thank for joining me here! I’m currently rather busy training up some epic pokemon and being a mad scientist at the moment, but there should be some SnK progress soon to show at the very least~
This blog can sometimes be a bit dead if I’m not working on a lot, which as a Master’s student can sometimes happen, and you can always follow my personal blog here if you’d like more fandom stuffs with the cosplay as well and something a bit more active to my life~
Lovely to have you all here with me m’dears~ My ask is always open if you have any questions or if you’d just like to talk or anything! <3
First, I just want to say that I adore you and your cosplays. Second, I would love to ask for your advice, if it's no bother. My family and I are cosplaying Brave (my parents as Fergus and Elinor, myself as Merida and my three brothers as the suitors) and I saw your Merida wig post: Since, unfortunately, all my previous cosplays have had simple hair, I don't have much experience with sewing wigs. I was wondering what wigs and techniques you used to achieve such a beautiful SA wig for Merida. (:
Thank you so much for saying so <33
And absolutely! I’d be happy to help~ (I’m so sorry this is so late though oh gosh my last week was the worst ><)
Most of my work in my Merida wig can be found in this tutorial here I made but I can sum it up for you~
I bought a $20 merida ebay wig (just search for merida wigs) and a nice pumpkin Merry wig from Arda. I’ve also recently bought extensions for it to to add highlights and lowlights but you can essentially take any two wigs you like~ ebay is a great source for those!
Other than that, you make one of your wigs the sacrificial wig and one wig your base. Your sacrificial wig will be cut like I showed in my other tutorial to make thin strips of wig hair. You’ll need to find the weft lines on your base wig (the thin strips where the fibres come from on the base) and either sew them down through a round stitch around your weft and your base wig, or you can also glue gun it down if you don’t have the time~ Doing this with most of the wefts that used to be your sacrificial wig will end up with two wigs becoming one and you getting lots of poof and curls :)
I hope that helps! I wish you guys all the luck that costume idea with your family sounds so so so great! :D
