Back and front of the cape~!! :D I literally used ALL of the 8-9 m of fabric I bought for this costume wow

Need to attach the cape still to the top piece, hem the cape, finish up the bias tape on the top piece, perhaps readjust and re sew the gold jewels on the front, finish painting and attach the worbla pieces and hem the bottom of the skirt AND THEN THIS COSTUME IS DONE YES!!! :D

Pretty happy with how my Sakura dress looks so far! Will finish up the back of the top tomorrow… Hopefully I made the right decision on how to structure it when I played with boning because of the weird curves it looks so weird and wouldn’t work ): yay interfacing at the very least XD

and I’m realizing that I spent at least an hour getting the point to the top in the middle and have it sit right and such… Annnnnnd it will be completely hidden by the wings… Oh joy OTL

For the upcoming convention Anime North I’m putting together this Sakura costume from Tsubasa Chronicles as my big Saturday costume~

This image is flipped from the original, but I’ve currently finished the molds for Sakura’s head piece and neck brooch-thing :) I’m about to get started on the waist wing piece too~

My corset top for Sakura is about 90% finished!!!! :D not bad for one night when I started off with draft mk. 2, ended up with drafts mk. 3 and 4, then cutting out all the actual fabric, having multiple screwups with how I was doing the interfacing and lining and finally eventually this! *happy dances*

I’m quite pleased with how it’s coming actually~

Except I can’t quite decide whether to make the back a zipper or a lace-up which I think could be quite pretty. What do you think? (Please let me know my horrible indecisiveness is peeking through) thanks!!

I’m really really happy it helped! I wasn’t too sure if I was coming across well or not XD I’m really glad it did~

You’re lucky I haven’t sewn this down yet so I can actually show you! :) I’m trying to decide how I’m going to put this in permentantly… but might end up hot glueing on the bottom and glueing a fabric piece on top so my head isn’t irritated

So I have these three pieces I think I originally cut off from the crown of the sacrificial wig

I layer the three on top of each other to get a good amount of hair~

On the actual wig I style back some of the strands of hair from around my face to open up the wig around my face a bit more

Then currently I just sort of stick the three pieces underneath the wig for now. I’m going to continue with this since her hair does sort of poof up I guess from her forehead so this will allow me to pull the hair up and poof it from there

And then I essentially pull the hair back and style it how I like XD It just ends up sitting on the wighead like this for now until I figure out how to properly put it in.

So I first started with this wig: Arda’s Merry in Pumpkin:

and bought this cheap 20 dollar wig from ebay:

I essentially used the second wig to harvest wefts for the higher quality Arda wig. So pretty much a few hours after I received the second wig in the mail it was a bunch of loose wefts on the table that pretty much looked like this:

If you turn a wig inside out you’ll notice that the wig is made up of layers of all these lines of string/fabric holding the wig together. These individually are called wefts! What you’ll essentially be doing is sewing new wefts directly attached to those of the base wig. I did this by hand stitching but people also do this by hot glueing too.

And imagine the pile being about 4x its current size for what the wig originally gave me. Those still here are the wefts I still need to sew into the wig~

If you look closer each of these bits are held together by black string/fabric essentially. It’ll be these that you sew into the wig attaching to your base wigs wefts too!

So you take your pieces (I did both single wefts I cut out and huge chunks of wefts I cut out from the sacrificial wig to keep the integrity of some of the pretty curls) and you stitch them right against the weft you’re putting it on top of. I primarily used the overcast stitch so that it went around both hard/string parts of the weft keeping them together, and you want to make sure when you’re stitching to go through both ‘string’ parts so that you’re not just sewing the wig fibers c:

This may have not been done entirely properly but I like how it ended up looking for me. So this is an example of a big piece a cut out off the sacrificial wig to keep the curls and I sewed it into the wig from just the top weft. But if you’re doing this be sure the other pieces are still attached to the weft you’re sewing in.

This is another example of what I did -> I took another big chunk, sewing the ends of the chunk together with a zigzag stitch, then hand stitching that into the top of the wig~

Essentially all you’re trying to do is place the new weft that you’ve made by cutting up your old wig, and placing it right on top of the weft on your base wig you want it to go on and sewing them together! :D

Ultimately when you have the wig upright again you’ll end up with this where you have both parts of the wig showing through :) And you should eventually end up with something like….

I also haven’t put extra wefts down on every line of the original base wig either - currently just sort of at the top, in the middle and on the bottom as well but I’ll be adding more around too of both this sacrificial wig and likely two others I’ll get for highlights and lowlights :)

I’ll be fixing my own dress up (need to fit it a bit more and replace the collar portion since it rippled) for the movie too~
